The placement of grouted helical piling as outlined on these pages and videos is covered by many worldwide patents. The presentation of the techniques, methods and materials herein are for public educational purposes only. These and any other demonstrations, details, discussions, or any other type of presentations used for promotion of this technology confers no rights to any party to to make, have made, use, sell, resell, lease, import, export, and otherwise distribute the PULLDOWN™ PILE.

Installation of Steel Sleeved Helical PULLDOWN ™ Micropile ( 5 minutes )

It was generally assumed by rail road officials in the UK that it was impossible to place a helical pile through rail bed Rock Ballast.

Therefore we attended an abandoned spur line and installed a test pile through the rocky rubble. As you can see it was easy to accomplish utilizing a solid steel square shaft helical anchor as manufactured by A.B. Chance company. The rail company wishes to use the pilings for machinery bases, lighting and signage on the underground and railway, right of ways.

In view of that, we also demonstrated that the installing pile easily “Pulls Down” a steel sleeve through the rock ballast. The sleeve filled with Cementicious grouts allows designers to specify increased bending and ground line shear capacity of the pilings. Pile placement was less than 10 minutes, considerably less than the 4-6 hours currently needed to set concrete columns for the same supports. The piles are also easily removed should the need arise in the future.

This video is a shortened version of the CHANCE ® “Hubbell” ™ Video Below. It is used to demonstrate the placement of grouted helical piling and the technical means by which this is accomplished. A short discussion of one of the advantages of the technique (High capacity in very soft soils overlying adequate load bearing soils ) is mentioned along with the extra capacity of the pile offered by friction of the hardened grout column .

The video demonstrates the ease and speed of installation of a Helical Instant Foundation™. Light poles, like the one visible in the video, can be immediately erected and bolted to the installed base after the installation. Typically the boom arm of the Digger Derrick Truck or the arm of a small excavator fitted with a drive head, is used to lift the pole into position and attached. This saves a return trip to mount the pole or other supported elements to the new foundation(s)..
